Good to know

What is L-arginine?

Arginine is found in many protein-rich foods. Here are the key facts in brief.

A protein building block

L-arginine is one of the protein-forming amino acids. The body can produce it itself. We also obtain it from protein-rich foods.

Chemical structure

An arginine molecule contains four nitrogen atoms, more than any other protein-forming amino acid.

What ‘base’ means

‘Base’ refers to L-arginine in its free form. Unlike L-arginine hydrochloride, it is not present as a hydrochloride salt. You can stir the powder into water, juice or a shake.

Understanding the label

Base, hydrochloride or a mixture?

L-arginine is available in various forms. When comparing quantities, it is the amount of arginine contained that counts, not the weight of the powder. We do not assume that any form results in better absorption or efficacy.

Our product

L-arginine base

Our only ingredient is L-arginine base. According to the declaration, a daily serving of 5 g contains 5 g of L-arginine.

Salt form

L-arginine HCl

Pure, anhydrous L-arginine hydrochloride contains, by calculation, around 83% arginine. Approximately 6 g of this corresponds to 5 g of arginine.

Mixture

Amino acid complexes

These contain several amino acids. Compare the explicitly stated amount of L-arginine per daily serving.

The raw material

Obtained through fermentation

Our L-arginine is derived from fermentation. This is how it is produced.

Produced by microorganisms

During fermentation, microorganisms produce the amino acid, typically from a sugar-containing nutrient solution. The arginine is then separated, purified and crystallised.

Labelled as vegan

Fermentation alone does not make a product vegan. Culture media and excipients also count. Our L-arginine is labelled as vegan.

A single ingredient

The pouch contains only L-arginine base, with no fillers, anti-caking agents, flavourings or sweeteners.

Diet

Where arginine occurs naturally

Arginine is found in many protein-rich foods, particularly in seeds, nuts and pulses. All values are per 100 g.

  • Pumpkin seedsdried 5,4 g
  • Peanutsraw 3,1 g
  • Lentilsraw 1,9 g
  • Oatsgrain 1,2 g

Values per 100 g according to USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy): Pumpkin and squash seed kernels, dried (FDC 170556); Peanuts, all types, raw (172430); Lentils, raw (172420); Oats (169705). The values represent the total arginine content, predominantly as a component of proteins. The content depends on the foodstuff and how it is processed. Around 93 g of dried pumpkin seeds contain approximately 5 g of arginine.

Important information

Who should not take L-arginine

Please read this information before taking the product for the first time. If you have any questions, your doctor or pharmacist will be able to help.

Not suitable
