Good to know
Ashwagandha has become very well known in recent years. Here is a brief summary of the most important facts about the plant.
A plant from India
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) belongs to the nightshade family and is mainly cultivated in India. The plant is also known as ‘sleepberry’ or ‘winter cherry’.
The root is used
In the Ayurvedic tradition of India, it is primarily the root that is used. Our extract, too, is derived exclusively from the root.
No claims of efficacy
There are currently no approved EU health claims for ashwagandha. That is why you will find information on quantities, the raw material and important notes here, rather than claims of efficacy.

A branded raw material from India
We use the KSM-66® ashwagandha root extract from the Indian manufacturer Ixoreal Biomed. The name stands for a defined extract with a specified composition.
From the root only
According to the manufacturer, KSM-66® is produced using only the root, without any leaves. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, extraction is carried out without alcohol or chemical solvents.
Standardised to 5% withanolides
The extract is standardised to a withanolide content of 5%. This ensures that the quantity remains consistent from batch to batch.
Understanding the label
Ashwagandha products often feature several figures. Here’s how to interpret them.
Powder or extract?
Root powder is ground root. An extract is a preparation derived from it, in which certain active ingredients are concentrated. 600 mg of extract is therefore not the same as 600 mg of powder.
Percentages and milligrams
‘5% withanolides’ describes the proportion in the extract. The key factor for comparison is the amount per daily serving in milligrams – in our case, 30 mg.
The measurement method matters
Withanolides are determined using different methods. Depending on the method, the values for the same extract can vary. Very high percentage figures are therefore not automatically more comparable.
Per capsule or per day?
Some suppliers state quantities per capsule, others per daily serving. Always check how many capsules are recommended.

One jar contains 180 capsules, which is 90 daily servings. At 2 capsules a day, it lasts around three months. In total, one jar contains 54 g of organic KSM-66® root extract.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) belongs to the nightshade family and is also known as ‘sleepberry’ or ‘winter cherry’. Our product contains an extract from the root.
KSM-66® is a branded extract from the ashwagandha root produced by the Indian manufacturer Ixoreal Biomed. According to the manufacturer, it is derived exclusively from the root and standardised to 5% withanolides.
The root is the part of the plant traditionally used. Leaves contain different quantities and compositions of active ingredients. We therefore use only a root extract.
Withanolides are plant compounds that are characteristic of ashwagandha. Their content serves as a benchmark for standardising extracts and comparing them with one another.
The extract is standardised to a withanolide content of 5%. In a daily serving of 600 mg of extract, this amounts to 30 mg. One capsule contains 300 mg of extract with 15 mg of withanolides. This keeps the amount comparable from batch to batch.
Manufacturers sometimes quote percentages, sometimes milligrams, sometimes per capsule, sometimes per day. Furthermore, the figures vary depending on the measurement method. You should therefore always compare the amount per daily serving and check how it was measured.
No. There are currently no authorised EU health claims for ashwagandha. That is why we give you amounts, information on the raw material and important notes instead of promises about effects.

In Germany, there is no specified maximum intake, and the BfR has so far been unable to establish a guideline for a safe intake level. The absence of a maximum intake does not mean that any amount is safe. You should therefore adhere to the recommended daily intake of 2 capsules daily.
The pack size does not indicate a recommended duration of use. You should discuss longer-term use with your doctor.
Please do not. The recommended daily intake is 2 capsules and must not be exceeded. Do not take any other supplements containing ashwagandha alongside this product.
